Hastings Highlands’ noise by-law updated to include fireworks

CORRECTION: A previous version of the article stated fireworks would not be allowed on New Year’s Eve, Victoria Day, Canada Day, and Labour Day. They are allowed on those days.

Fireworks have been added to Hastings Highlands’ noise and fireworks by-law, with fines being introduced for those that disobey the new rules.

“No person shall set off consumer fireworks on any day during the year, except on Fridays and Saturdays between dusk and 11 PM from June 20th to Thanksgiving weekend Monday,” the addition to the existing by-law reads. Fireworks will be allowed on New Year’s Eve, Victoria Day, Canada Day, and Labour Day.

It’s noted in the by-law that when the fire danger rating is set to “high” or “extreme,” it overrides the by-law and you will not be allowed to set-off fireworks at any time.

You will be able to get written permission from council to set-off fireworks for special events.

If caught going against the by-law, you could be fined between $100 and $1,000.
