Vintage on Hastings helping students go “mask” to school with new project

Vintage on Hastings has kicked off a new program called “Mask to School” that will make sure all students in North Hastings have a mask in hand when they are back in class on September 3rd.

Communications for Hospice North Hastings who run vintage explains they have a limited amount of supplies for people to use to create masks but are hoping people also make ones on their own and drop them off at the store.  “We know in our community there are people willing to do it without our supplies and others who will donate,” she says.

Shaw says kids, parents and teachers are stressed right now as day school returns gets closer and closer. She says making sure students have masks is a small thing, but hopes it goes a long way in alleviating some stress. “We thought this would be a good way to show our support,” Shaw tells the MyBancroftNow.com newsroom.

“Masks are kind of like underwear,” Shaw says while laughing. “You need more than one.”

She says that wearing a mask has become politicized, but the fact is that when kids return to school, they will need to wear a mask. “We want to make sure they’re prepared,” Shaw says.

People can either use the materials provided by vintage to make a mask or make one of their own. Whichever way you choose, Shaw asks that you drop them off at the store at 67 Hastings Street North and the team there will take them to schools in North Hastings.

Shaw says they wanted to spearhead this effort to put the focus on the kids returning to school and make sure they’re safe. “We want to say to parents everywhere: do your best because these are tough times,” she adds. “We are all with you and let’s do what we can to take care of these kiddos.”
