Public Health Restrictions in Hastings Prince Edward Move from Green to Yellow

Hastings Prince Edward Public Health has moved up a level in COVID-19 restrictions.

The Ontario Government has announced that HPEPH will go from Green-Prevent to Yellow-Protect. The new measures will see restrictions placed on when bars and restaurants are allowed to open and their music volume, as well as spacing between patrons at gyms, among others that were in place under the green level.

The move goes into effect as of 12:01 a.m. Monday, November 30th.

Dr. Piotr Ogalza of HPEPH says it is crucial that we protect our vulnerable populations and our health care system capacity, and says that transmission in the region has increased, leading to more safety measures.

Under Yellow – Protect there are additional requirements for the following:

  • Restaurants, bars, and other food and drink establishments
  • Sports and recreational fitness facilities
  • Meeting and event spaces
  • Retail
  • Personal Care Services
  • Casinos, bingo halls, and gaming establishments
  • Cinemas
  • Performing arts facilities

The province says that health measures will be reviewed on a weekly basis to assess if more measures are needed. Each health unit will remain at their current warning level for 28 days before there’s any consideration of downgrading their status.
