Gas Tax Money Going To Fund Transit in Bancroft

Bancroft is going to be receiving some gas tax money to fund public transit.

MPP Daryl Kramp has announced the Town will be getting nearly $79,000 from Ontario’s Gas Tax Program. It’s a part of a larger $1.3 million dollar package for Hastings, Lennox and Addington. Funding can be used to extend service hours, buy transit vehicles, add routes, improve accessibility or upgrade infastructure.

Kramp said this will allow Bancroft and other municipalities to plan for transit with certainty this year. He said that public transit in town and the region will be important for economic recovery.

Included in the package is over $835,000 for Bellville, $148,000 for Deseronto, and $186,000 for Loyalist Township. The gas tax is calculated by how many litres of gas were sold in the province in the previous year.
