Mayor Jenkins: Downtown Revitalization to Have Minimal Impact on Businesses, Taxpayer

Bancroft Mayor Paul Jenkins says the new plan to revitalize downtown Bancroft aims to make Hastings Street more walkable.

The plan will see the construction of better sidewalks, the planting of trees, and areas to park away from the road. The Town of Bancroft is hoping that this will encourage more foot traffic and boost the economy during the tourist season. Mayor Jenkins says that the construction should have little impact on local businesses. The Town is planning to do most of the construction during the tourist off-season when traffic is at its lowest.

Jenkins hopes that the majority of the project will be covered by Connecting Links funding. The project will stretch for a few years to ease the burden on the taxpayer. He says the project is now searching for an engineer to design the details.
