CRA Issuing Clarification After Email Removals, Lockouts

The Canada Revenue Agency says taxpayers’ personal information is safe.

It comes after some people had their emails removed or were locked out of their accounts this week. A CRA media relations rep told C-B-C that users who are signed up for online account alerts may get a notification that their email address has been removed from their account. The spokesperson says it’s being done as a “security precaution” and wasn’t because of a cybersecurity breach.

Impacted users will get a letter in the mail explaining how to unlock their account, according to the spokesperson. It’s not known just how many users were impacted.
