Quinte Regional Science Fair Goes Virtual, Encourages North Hastings Students to Join

The Quinte Regional Science and Technology Fair is going online this year.

Kids from across hastings county are invited to participate in creating their best science project to compete for cash prizes and awards. Christopher Spencer, co-chair of the Fair, says he hopes moving it online will encourage more kids from North Hastings to sign up. He says they don’t have to travel, and while internet is required to upload data and photographs, all interviews are done by phone. If there is an issue with internet connections, Spencer says the fair will help out the student any way they can. While the camaraderie between the students will be missed without a physical fair, Spencer believes that there is more opportunity for students in North Hastings.

Spencer suggests starting from a specific interest and taking it in a scientific direction to start a project. In his experience, many students have had their findings published, and many go on to win the grand prize at the national level.

An online portal where students can register will be up and running soon. When the portal is available, it can be accessed on the Fair’s website.
