Baseball For Dad Continues Fight To Raise Mental Health Awareness

After losing her son to suicide, Louri Snider continues the fight to raise awareness for mental health.

Mental Health Awareness Week takes place May 3-9, and Snider, the organizer of Baseball for Dad, says it’s more important than ever to get the conversation started around mental health.

She says ever since her son Mark’s passing in 2019, she’s made it her mission in life to try and end the stigma.

“I had no idea how mental health affects people, no idea about the impact it has on families, on people who are struggling, so this is all about our passion for raising awareness and wanting to create change,” Snider said.

For the week, Baseball for Dad will be organizing a socially distance Community Scavenger hunt which will promote positive mental health and well-being.

They will also be sponsoring Kindness Rock painting in local schools.

Snider says they simply want to get the message out there to those dealing with anxiety, depression, or suicidal thoughts that they are not alone.

“Mental illness is no different than any other illness, and it needs to be treated that way,” Snider said. “There is hope, and you’ll get there. It takes time, but it’s okay to do these things. That’s the message I always try to spread is it’s okay to get help and it’s okay not to be okay.”
