Loyalist College has earned top marks in a number of key performance indicators, according to Colleges Ontario.
In their recent report, 89% of Loyalist College students found employment within six months of graduation. Colleges Ontario says that’s the highest rate in Eastern Ontario. The college also scored top marks in other areas, with an 84% graduate satisfaction rate, and a 100% rating in employer satisfaction, the highest mark in Eastern Ontario.
President of the College, Dr. Ann Marie Vaughan is excited with the results, saying it shows that both employers and students are happy with the college. Vaughan credits this with Loyalist focusing on their regional schools and their focus on soft skills. Part of the college’s plan is to look at how they can align each regional cluster with the local economy and offer programs that would fit best in each region. The college is also beginning to focus on soft skills, like cross-cultural and indigenous understanding, as well as citizenship and global responsibility. By taking these values into account, they aim to make students aware of what skills they gain outside their field of study and appreciate what skills they gain in their personal lives. Vaughan says this makes them more valuable to employers and to the communities they live in.
The key performance indicators are a joint effort between the Ministry of Ontario Colleges and Universities, Colleges Ontario and various student organizations. They came about in 1998 as a way to track how universities were doing and to help them progress
