The Switch Yard/Bancroft Youth Unlimited is launching another virtual campaign this year.
Starting June 9th, they will begin an online fundraising campaign and would like the community to help. This year their goal is $15,000. Managing Director for Youth Unlimited Kelsy Watts says they have kept up their programs through the last few months, and have offered mental health support groups, online gaming sessions, and were even able to meet outside when lockdowns were lifted. They have also been able to provide meals for youth and families. Along with support going towards these programs, money will also go towards maintenance and supplies. Watts hopes that when they are able to be in-person again, they’ll be able to offer all their services.
Last year was the first time they did this fundraising online and were blown away raised $20,000 from a goal of $10,000. In the future, Watts would like to start up more programs to target the younger youth in the grade 7 or 8 range. The group will start programs they are interested in, and will reach out to more and more kids. These programs will be whatever the kids want to do, creating a safe space where they can be themselves even if they just want to be quiet and play a game.
