Haliburton County now under a total fire ban

The municipalities of Dysart et al, and Highlands East, and the Townships of Algonquin Highlands, and Minden Hills have issued a total fire ban.

The ban will be in place until further notice.

That means that no burning of any kind is allowed, including open-air fires and fireworks. All daytime burning and fireworks permits are suspended until further notice.

With the fire status now at extreme, Minden Hills Fire Chief Nelson Johnson cautions that fires can start easily and spread quickly. He says to call 911 if you see any fire or smoke.

“Whether in the backyard of your home, the cottage or at a campground, make fire safety a priority,” John says. “Open-air burning, especially if left unattended, can become difficult to control and can result in a serious widespread fire.”
