Algonquin Park issues total burn ban

Starting on June 11th, a full burn ban will be in place for Algonquin Park.

When visiting the park, no fires of any kind will be allowed within its boundaries. The ban is due to extreme wildfire risk across the park. Conditions will be lifted as soon as conditions improve, and are monitored daily.

The move comes as Algonquin Park, along with all Ontario Parks, will open for overnight stays on June 11th. This includes backcountry camping.

Park staff says that if you have a campground reservation, you should go directly there any time after 2 PM. Campers at Pog Lake and Kearney Lake Campgrounds must stop at the Pog Lake Office to check in.

Both campsite and backcountry campers must bring a paper or digital copy of their reservation while in the park. However, for campsite users, you do not need to attach a printed copy of your permit to your campsite post or vehicle. Staff urge campers to familiarize themselves with vehicle rules and pick up an information guide while at the park.

In addition to the burn ban, the Lake of Two Rivers and Mew Lake Campgrounds are under a boil water advisory. The advisory suggests that park visitors bring their own water or get it from other spots in the park. Water taken from the campgrounds must be boiled for at least one minute before consuming.
