2021 Bancroft Relay for Life raises over $34,000

It was another record year for Bancroft’s Relay for Life team.

The team raised $34,468.85 out of a $30,000 goal. Organizer Flo VanderMeer says despite being virtual this year, the event still went well. While they were not able to crack the top 5 fundraising teams in Canada, they still ranked 12th across the county, which VanderMeer says they were very pleased with. Along with the donations, they were able to sell over 80 luminaries, which were placed in a ceremony at Millenium Park.

VanderMeer attributed the success of the fundraiser to the community, as people came on board and donated again this year. She says the cause is near and dear to a lot of people, and many people are eager to find answers and treatment in the fight against cancer.

The team is already prepping for next year, and VanderMeer hopes that it will be an in-person event. People are eager to get back into a group and are missing the contact, hugs and interactions the Relay brings. When the next relay happens on June 11th, 2022, she hopes the small but mighty team can meet in person.
