Red Dress Productions preparing to select design for North Hastings art installation

People will soon get to see designs for Bancroft’s newest art installation.

Red Dress Productions, partnering with Maggie’s Resource Centre, will be hosting a number of feedback sessions where they will take input on five designs for the Countdown Public Art installation in Millennium Park. A workshop on Zoom will be held on June 22nd, where Lead Artist Anna Camilleri will show the drafts. During this workshop, Camilleri will also show what the project team has been up to the last few months. Feedback will then be gathered until June 25th, with all feedback going into one single design. A final design will be presented on June 29th.

A number of stone painting kits were given out through Maggie’s Resource Centre in the initial phases of the project. Donna Reid with the Centre says they were able to give out 180 of these kits to people in the community. While there were challenges getting together to meet for the project, many people in the area were excited to see the project happen.

Both Camilleri and Reid praised the work of Art Ambassadors Holly MacMurray and Jackie Lopez for organizing the community outreach. They also listed various organizations like North Hastings Community Trust, North Hastings Community Integration Association, North Hastings Children Services, Algonquin First Nation and the Town of Bancroft as major supporters of the project.

Looking forward to July, the final and technical designs for the installation will be completed and work will begin in Millenium Park. Camilleri plans to have a community unveiling session for what will happen on opening day. On August 12th they will have a public mosaic event, and the final unveiling will take place September 24th.
