Bancroft’s Eagle’s Nest reopens to the public

The Eagle’s Nest is now ready once again to receive the public.

Dora Yateman, Chair of the Stewards of Bancroft Eagle’s Nest Park, says they are very excited to have the popular destination back up and running. She says visitors will notice a lot of new work at the park, such as brand new signage and maps, as well as a new accessibility ramp to the Eagle’s Nest platform.

A lot of work has gone into the park for this day, according to Yateman. It began in the fall of 2019, when trails were assessed to find out what needed to be refurbished, with some trails needing to be rerouted completely. Work began in spring 2020, with some interruptions due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Work continued this spring to put on the finishing touches. Yateman says the Stewarts were up in the park working to maintain the park, even when it wasn’t open. She now hopes that people like what they now have to offer.

In addition to the regular amenities, Yatemen says they will also have guided nature tours. Stewards Board member and nature facilitator Virginia deCarle will be leading a trail walk, scavenger hunt and tree identification program starting Friday, July 9th.

Yateman wanted to acknowledge the work Hastings Destinations Trails put into the new park. She says they did the work to apply for the grant that allowed them to do the refurbishing.
