Carlow-Mayo keeps recreation facilities closed until September

Due to the size of Carlow-Mayo Township, Mayor Bonnie Adams says they will keep its recreation facilities closed for now.

Adams says they do not have the resources or staff to keep the facilities clean to the standard required by Hastings Prince-Edward Public Health. With recreational facilities used quite frequently by the municipality, they don’t have the resources to keep the facilities COVID-19 free.

Adams adds that an outbreak can strongly affect the small community, especially as the township has a high percentage of seniors. She says that Carlow-Mayo has so far been diligent with cleaning and PPE, and has worked hard to prevent an outbreak from coming into the municipality.

Facilities will remain closed until September, with Adams stressing they will do everything required as laid out by the Health Unit. Municipal offices for Carlow-Mayo remain open.
