North Hastings Community Trust calling for art submissions for memorial plaque

The North Hastings Community Trust is creating a plaque to honour those lost to overdoses.

The Trust is seeking art submissions to decorate the plaque, with a final deadline for submissions on August 4th. They have been collecting submissions for a few weeks previously through donations or workshops held at their Bancroft location.

Nicole Powers with the Trust says this plaque is an important part of remembering those who lived, were loved, and who matter. She hopes that the plaque will not allow those lives to be dismissed or forgotten, and to acknowledge their lives were prematurely ended by negligence.

Community Support Worker with the Trust Victoria Burke says the work on the plaque is being done by Rocky Dobey and the Hastings Highlands Worker’s Co-operative. Dobey donated the materials for the plaque and will be doing the engraving. The plaque will be unveiled to the community on August 31st.

Burke says you don’t have to be an artist to submit work, and asks to not use full names in submissions. If you have pieces that you would like to have engraved on the memorial plaque, contact the Trust on their Facebook page or email submissions to [email protected]
