Expect a lot of construction in the next few months, says Bancroft Mayor

With the summer tourist season winding down, Bancroft Mayor Paul Jenkins says to expect some major construction projects to begin soon.

However, despite the revitalization of downtown, the new Community Hub and other construction projects, he has pledged to keep traffic disruption to a minimum. With the downtown project expected to break ground in the next few months, Jenkins says staff is working hard to make sure major work does not disrupt the busy summer season. He says many things have to be juggled in order to keep traffic flowing as best as possible.

The revitalization project will see paving and streetscaping take place on Hastings Street North up to Snow Road, and through to Bridge Street. The project still remains in the engineering phase, but work is supposed to start later this year.

In addition to the downtown revitalization project and Community Hub, some housing projects are also under construction. Along with the ongoing construction at the old Bancroft Public School, a 75-unit senior’s home will also be built on Kirk Boulevard. Jenkins says these projects are in line with council’s focus on creating affordable housing and ultimately being able to bring the costs of services in the Town down to affordable levels.
