Hastings Lennox and Addington MP Derek Sloan to run in Alberta riding

MP Derek Sloan will seek re-election, but not in Hastings Lennox and Addington.

The independent MP announced he will seek reelection in the riding of Banff-Airdrie. The riding in southwestern Alberta is currently held by Conservative MP Blake Richards. In the 2019 election, Richards won the seat with 71% of the votes. Sloan hinted at rallies that he would be creating his own political party, but the details were not finalized before the writ dropped for the election.

This has reduced the number of declared candidates in Hastings-Lennox and Addington to three. Liberal Mike Bossio will seek reelection, while the Conservatives have fielded Shelby Kramp-Neuman. The People’s Party of Canada has announced it has selected James Babcock as their candidate. No word yet on who the federal NDP or Green Party will run in the riding.
