Public Health urging students to vaccinate as they return to school

Hastings Prince Edward Public Health is urging everyone to play their role in keeping schools safe as classes start.

Outgoing Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Piotr Oglaza says that parents, guardians, students, educators, school boards and public health all have a role to play to make the return to schools as safe as possible.

He is urging everyone eligible to get vaccinated and to stay home if you are sick. He also wants households to continue to screen for COVID-19 symptoms, even if vaccinated, and to continue public health guidelines.

The news comes as Public Health has noticed a large increase in Delta variant cases in the unit. In August, 38% of cases were confirmed or suspected variant cases.

School starts September 7th.
