Hastings Prince Edward Public Health to require full vaccination for indoor sports

If you are going to be doing organized sports indoors this year, Hastings Prince Edward (HPE) Public Health will need proof of vaccination from some people.

All owners, operators or people responsible for indoor facilities like arenas must make sure that all coaches, officials and volunteers aged 12 and up are vaccinated against COVID-19. Dr. Piotr Ogłaza, Medical Officer of Health at the Unit, says the move is to protect children who are too young to be vaccinated. Until a vaccine is approved for children under 12, he says the best way to protect them is to make sure those around them are vaccinated.

Public Health has sent out a letter of instruction to those who are affected by the new mandate. In addition to the new vaccination requirement, those responsible for indoor facilities must still comply with other public health measures like screening, physical distancing, and taking everyone’s contact information. Those who are 17 and under using the sports facility just for practice are exempt from the letter of instruction.

The new guidelines come into effect immediately.
