OPP urges safe driving, boating on Canada Day holiday

The OPP’s East Region is reminding drivers and boaters to be cautious on the roads and water this Canada Day.

It’s asking motorists, all-terrain vehicle drivers and boaters to not be distracted or impaired while behind the wheel.  Distracted driving doesn’t just mean using your cell phone – it includes: changing the music, working your GPS, eating and drinking, grooming and looking after children in the backseat.

Chief Superintendent and Regional Commander for the East Region Daniel Redmond says OPP officers have recently responded to many fatal collisions that could have been prevented.   If you spot a careless or impaired driver, you’re asked to report it to the closest OPP detachment.
