The Manager for Public Works in the Town of Bancroft has described the street as a “maintenance nightmare”.
Perry Kelly, Manager of Public Works with the municipality, has recommended to council that barricades be put on John Street between the Pine Yard restaurant entrance and the garage at 24 John Street. This would effectively block any thorough traffic moving through the area without affecting adjacent properties.
Kelly pointed to the risk to the safety of staff during winter snow removal operations as to why the road should be closed. Equipment is either not cut out for the task of sanding or removing snow, and those that can pose a safety risk for staff and the surrounding roads.
Council will discuss the issue at their next in-committee meeting.
