School Board reaches tentative agreement with occasional teacher’s union

While it still needs to be voted on by those involved, the Hastings Prince Edward District School Board has reached a work agreement with its substitute teachers.

The agreement has been reached between the Board and the Hastings and Prince Edward Occasional Teachers’ Local. The contract will cover around 200 elementary school teachers employed as occasional teachers. When voted on by both the union and the board, the agreement will be retroactive from September 1st, 2019 until August 31st, 2022. No details have been given about what the contract entails at this time.

President of the Teacher’s Local Doug Thur says the breakthrough in negotiations comes at a time of budget cuts across the province, and that the new contract helps address some of the concerns from their members. Chair of the School Board Lucille Kyle praised both sides’ commitment to coming to an agreement.
