Public Health puts caps on social gatherings in Hastings Prince Edward

Hastings Prince Edward Public Health is clamping down on social gatherings as the number of COVID cases continues to rise.

Acting Medical Officer of Health Dr. Ethan Toumishey has issued a class order effective immediately that caps social gatherings in private dwellings to ten people. This number will include the number of people living in houses, apartments and condominiums, and any extra people visiting. In addition, those who host an indoor social gathering must have a list of guests, and provide it to the Health Unit within 12 hours if requested to do so.

For businesses, patrons must wear a mask at all times and must remain seated when consuming food or drink. Businesses must collect contact information and deliver it within 12 hours if requested to do so by Public Health. A letter of instruction has been sent out to businesses and organizations with details about the ruling.

Those who fail to comply may be liable for a fine of up to $100,000. The order will stay in effect until further notice.
