First snowmobile trails open in the region

They may only be partially open, but you can now ride some trails in the Opeongo Hills.

The B Trail between Whitney and Wilno has been listed as “limitedly available” on the Ontario Federation of Snowmobile Clubs website. In addition, the B102 trail has also opened from Carson Lake all the way until Wilno. Limited trails are considered open, but riders should exercise extreme care, and reduce speeds.

In addition to wearing a helmet and obeying speed limits, the OPP wants riders to be sober, wear appropriate clothing to prevent hypothermia, and avoid unfamiliar areas at night. Make sure your cellphone is fully charged, and carry a personal safety kit. They also remind riders that no ice is safe ice, and to exercise caution when crossing any body of water.
