Public Health lists warming centres as cold snap blankets region

Temperatures are dropping, and that has prompted Hastings Prince Edward Public Health to issue a Cold Weather Health Warning.

The warning comes as temperatures drop below -25 Celcius across the region. With the increased risk of windburn, frostbite and hypothermia, the health unit wants people to be aware of warming centres in the region. They list the North Hastings Community Centre at 103 Newkirk Boulevard as the warming centre for our broadcast area.

The site is run by the Town of Bancroft and is located in the upper level of the arena. It will be open from 9 PM until 10 AM until January 16th. Town staff add that beds and meals will not be provided, and COVID-19 screening is required before entering the centre.

Public Health is also urging people to wear clothing in layers, keep moving, be up to date with weather conditions, and consider wearing sunglasses and a face mask to protect yourself from the elements.
