Important to clear vents after snow storm, says Bancroft Deputy Fire Chief

Deputy Fire Chief Matt Musclow is warning that the recent snowfall comes with its own safety risk.

The Bancroft Fire Department’s deputy says that snow blocking vents could pose a safety risk. He says that vents must have at least 30 centimeters (one foot) of clearance to stop the buildup of harmful gasses.

For those using generators, make sure they are in an open and well vented area. He is also urging people to not use propane heaters or barbecues inside.

Musclow warns that winter is often the time home fires happen the most, and to keep portable heaters away from anything flammable.
