Hastings Highlands residents who want to run for office this fall will need to check a couple of boxes of their own.
The municipality says they will be accepting applications for municipal candidates and school board trustees starting May 2nd. Applications are open for the role of mayor and deputy mayor, as well as four trustees for English and French public and separate schools. Five councillor positions are also open.
Nominees must fill out a form either in person or through an agent, and have at least 25 people sign their declaration form unless they are running for a school board position. A fee of $100 will be applied to all those running for office, except the mayor’s office, which will carry a $200 fee. No other funds may be raised or spent for their election campaign until their forms are filed.
