Health Unit releases provincial election primer

With the provincial election a month away, our local health unit has put together a document to help you understand what you’re voting on.

The Hastings Prince Edward Public Health Unit has released what it calls a “provincial election primer.”

The document outlines health and safety issues that are controlled by the provincial government, like access to mental health services, the minimum wage, and policies that help people recovering from addiction to substances like alcohol or opiates.

“As you engage in the 2022 provincial election process, we encourage you to learn about the key public health issues that affect the health and well-being of residents in Hastings and Prince Edward Counties,” says Dr. Ethan Toumishey, the organization’s Medical Officer of Health.

“Provincial decisions related to these issues can and will have a broad impact on the occurrence and cost of preventable illness and death – both locally and across the province.”

You can download the primer on the Hastings Prince Edward Public Health Unit website. Election Day is June 2nd.
