A scam involving online shopping has surfaced in Bancroft, according to OPP.
Police say that a Bancroft area resident posted an item for sale online and received a call from a scammer. The scammer and the resident made arrangements to exchange the item, and the fraudster arranged for it to be picked up by a third party. The third party picked up the item and exchanged it for a bank draft, which later turned out to be counterfeit.
The detachment says to question buyers who refuse to provide photo ID or will not be there to pick up the item in person. They also urge people to call the bank that issued the bank draft before completing the sale to ensure the draft is authentic.
