Hastings Highlands reminds residents of restricted fireworks use

The Municipality of Hastings Highlands is reminding residents that fireworks are only permitted at certain times in their region.

They say that, with some exceptions, no fireworks may be set off on any day during the year. However, there are many occasions when residents can, including Friday and Saturdays between dusk and 11 PM from June 20th until Thanksgiving Weekend. The municipality reminds people that fireworks cannot be set off on New Year’s Eve, Victoria Day, Canada Day and Labour Day.

While the municipality may make exceptions, no fireworks may be set off when a burn ban is in effect, or the fire danger rating is “High” or higher. The use of sky lanterns is banned in the municipality as well.

Fines for breaking these rules can reach $1000 in some cases.
