Public Health issues heat warning

Hastings Prince Edward Public Health says the heat could be hazardous to your health.

The Health Unit is warning that over the next few days, humidex values could reach into the 40s. With temperatures only hovering around 20 degrees overnight, the health unit says the heat poses a health risk.

Public Health says to keep on the lookout for skin rashes, muscle cramps, swelling, dizziness, headaches or fainting, as these could signal the onset of heat exhaustion. Extreme thirst, rapid breathing or heartbeat, and nausea are also signs of overheating. If you experience these symptoms, they urge residents to drink water and avoid caffeine and alcohol. They say to move to a cool place and make sure that friends, relatives and neighbours are cool and hydrated as well.

Environment Canada is currently predicting the heat to last until Thursday.
