Local health unit confirms infected ticks in provincial park

The Haliburton, Kawartha, Pine Ridge District Health Unit is confirming that infected ticks are present in a local provincial park.

It says recent tests done in Presqu’ile Provincial Park in Brighton have found blacklegged ticks, or deer ticks, that have the bacteria the causes Lyme disease.

The health unit says the best defence against tick bites is to wear light colours so you can spot ticks on you easily.  Wear a tick repellent spray and if you do see a tick on you or your pet, remove it quickly with tweezers and clean the bite to stop infection.

Lyme disease symptoms range from headache and fever to being tired with joint and muscle pain and developing a skin rash.  For more information, click here.
