Cleanup begins from Sunday’s storm

Sunday’s storm may have missed Bancroft, but areas south of the town have been hit.

The storm hit a few locations north of Highway 7 around Mamora and Madoc, causing power outages and road blockages. Video circulating online has shown debris and downed power lines along Highway 62 and 7, although most of the debris has been cleared up. OPP say they have received no reports of injuries.

The Northern Tornadoes Project is currently investigating a supercell north of Mamora that caused tree and structural damage. They will investigate via drone to see if a tornado touched down in the area.

The Municipality of Tweed has declared a state of emergency, and the Madoc Lion’s Club has opened their doors to those in need. The municipality is asking people to avoid using side roads, as their public works department is working to clear fallen trees from those roads.

Some Hydro One users are expected to be without power until sometime tomorrow.
