North Kawartha Community Care wins Community Volunteer Award

Some volunteers in Apsley have won a community award for their work in keeping groceries coming to the town.

North Kawartha Community Care has won the 2022 Community Volunteer of the Year Award. It was presented at the Peterborough County Recognition Awards Ceremony and was presented by North Kawartha Mayor Carolyn Amottye.

Katie Bryck, the Development Coordinator for Community Care in Apsly praised the volunteers’ work when Sayer’s Food, the town’s only grocery store, burned down in December of 2020. Community Care organized transportation to grocery stores in Bancroft and Lakefield. Bryck says their campaign, “Be A Lifeline”, supported residents throughout the township, making sure they had access to food sources.
