“It’s Going Fantastic” Tweed and Company Creative Director reacts to first half of season

Lots of sold-out crowds, excited people, and big productions that have never come to the Village Playhouse until now.

That is how Tim Porter, Creative Director of the Tweed and Company theatre group, describes the first half of the year running the Village Playhouse. With many of the shows for their upcoming production “Mama Mia” sold out, he says he is very excited about how the rest of the year will go.

Porter adds that there is a lot of energy for the performances so far. For shows like the Fitzgeralds and Johnny Cash, he says audience reactions had been “extreme”, and that it is lovely to be in the room and share the experience of live performances again after the pandemic. For upcoming shows, he is scheduling extra bar staff, prepping the sound system, and fully anticipating a big audience reaction.

Summer youth programs have been very successful too, with people keen to get back in and learn about the theatre. Porter adds that more training seminars will be coming up soon, and they are hoping to be able to cast local performers to work alongside professionals to get experience on the stage.

Porter says the group plans to run a survey near the end of the summer season to gauge what people in Bancroft want from the Playhouse in the future. He encourages audience feedback, and suggests calling their box office line to let the Company know what they’d like to see. That number and tickets for upcoming performances can be found here.
