The revitalization of the downtown core is set to start this fall.
The Town of Bancroft has announced that the work will begin after the Labour Day weekend, and is scheduled to be finished in late spring of 2023. The work includes replacing parts of Hastings Street North from Bridge Street to Station Street. This will include reconstructing the road surface, curbs, gutters and sidewalks.
There also will be the addition of “smart city ready” lighting, which allows street lights to be controlled by a central computer. New pedestrian crosswalks and extensive streetscaping are also in the works.
Town staff says that the start of construction after Labour Day will reduce the impact on the business community, and avoid the issues around summer traffic in Bancroft. They say that there will be plenty of long-term benefits for residents and businesses once the construction is complete.
