Public Health expanding eligibility for bivalent COVID-19 vaccine

BANCROFT: The new bivalent COVID-19 vaccine is available to eligible North Hastings residents. However, for now, they’ll have to travel to get it.

Hastings Prince Edward Public Health is offering the vaccine at clinics in Belleville.

At first, those clinics were only for residents and workers at high-risk facilities. However, officials now say unanticipated availability is allowing them to open up the eligibility list.

That list now includes people aged 70 and over and residents of long-term homes. Also included are adults who identify as First Nation, Inuit and Metis. Pregnant women, those who are severely immunocompromised and health care workers are also eligible.

A Public Health spokesperson told Moose FM that supply of the vaccine is expected to increase in the coming weeks, to make it more conveniently available across the region.

People can book appointments through the Public Health website at www.hpepublichealth.ca/vaccine-booking
