BANCROFT: Construction along the busiest street in Bancroft is expected to continue until the snow falls.
And while it’s making for a slower drive, the project is going well said the town’s public works manager
Perry Kelly tells Moose FM that the work on Hastings Street, between Bridge Street and Scotiabank, will take place from sunrise to sunset on weekdays, making the road down to one lane. At night, when construction workers clear the area, it will be back to two lanes.
The construction that’s slowing traffic may be a pain now, but it will make the downtown much better when done, Perry says.
Right now, the work is in Phase One and is focussed on the area between Bridge Street and Scotiabank. Bonnechere Excavating is doing the job.
“They anticipate to have that 100 per cent complete with sidewalks, curb and gutters, new street lighting and new asphalt paved,” said Perry. “We’re trying to beat the winter freeze up.”
Work on Phase Two is expected to start in the spring. It will focus on the area between Scotiabank and Station Street.
