BANCROFT: The Bancroft Pregnancy Care Centre is now in a better position to support the community, says its executive director. However, it still needs to fundraise and spread the word about what it does.
The centre is holding a “mortgage burning” open house event at 4 p.m. on Friday, September 30.
Officials will celebrate paying off the mortgage for their 35 Sherbourne Street North location and inform the community about the services it offers. Executive Director Joan McHale says the centre provides a safe, non judgemental and confidential setting for people to seek support when facing an unintended pregnancy.
McHale also stressed that the centre doesn’t just support pregnant women. It also receives visits from men and grandparents, who are seeking services to support a pregnant family member. She added that the programs are about helping families make informed choices.
McHale said there’s strong demand for service, as in 2021 it had 384 client visits from 117 different clients.
