Interlake group to host candidates’ meeting for Hastings Highlands

In Hastings Highland there’s a three-person race for mayor and eight council candidates are vying for five positions.

Voters of the lake-laden municipality can see what they have to offer at a candidates meeting this Saturday.

The meeting runs from 9:30 a.m. to noon at Emond Hall, inside the municipal building in Maynooth.

It’s being hosted by the Hastings Highlands Interlake group. That organization formed about 10 years ago by bringing several different cottage associations together.

Meeting organizer Marlin Horst says he expects a number of hard issues will be raised.

He says the municipality’s need for consistently enforced bylaws, better fire protection and land planning could come up. He says these issues tend to generate discussion among the group’s passionate members.

Mayoral candidates Dorothy Gerrow, Tony Fitzgerald and Frank Hickey will be given an opportunity to share their platforms, as well as every council candidate.

The municipal election is Monday, October 24.
