Hastings County to host Doors Open Saturday

Tourists and history buffs have some open doors they can walk through this Saturday.

For this first time, Hastings County is holding its own Doors Open event.

The province-wide program is overseen by Ontario Heritage Trust. It encourages people to visit special buildings and landmarks and learn about their history.

Volunteers are expected to be at each participating site, from about 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. They can offer tours and share stories to guests.

About 20 sites throughout the country are expected to be open for the event. Participating sites in North Hastings include the Eagles Nest Park, Bancroft Village Playhouse (pictured) and the Old Hastings Mercantile and Gallery.

Tourism Co-ordinator Carly Wright says the county is hosting a Doors Open event for the first time because it feels promoting the area’s rich history will lead to more tourism and economic growth.

More details on the event can be found here.
