Ten Sea-Doos stolen from Bancroft business; six recovered, four unfound

A complex scheme to steal numerous Sea-Doos from a Bancroft business seems to be unravelling and has led to arrests of two Toronto people.

But Bancroft OPP is still asking for help, as some of the huge bounty remains unfound.

OPP say that a break and enter happened at a North Hastings Street business early Tuesday morning. Ten Sea-Doos, a brand of personal watercraft, were taken. Police won’t name the business, but say the break in took place between about 1:25 and 2:40 a.m.

Later, just before noon on Tuesday, Peterborough County OPP noticed a vehicle parked along Highway 28, with a trailer with three watercraft attached. They conducted a welfare check, as two people were sleeping inside.

They ended up arresting the two inside, a 33-year-old and a 38-year-old. They face numerous charges, related to the Bancroft thefts and drug possession.

Police seized the three Sea-Doos and later found three more that had been left in the Bancroft area. Police believed they had been stashed for the suspects to pick up at another time.

But four Sea-Doos have not been found and police are asking for the public’s help. They’d like to speak to anyone who has a surveillance video near the area. They’re hoping to spot a black SUV and a black half-ton truck, which they believe were used to steal the Sea-Doos.
