Those with an interest in tourism in the Highlands Region will be gathering Wednesday for a summit, where they’ll discuss how to keep the industry growing.
It’s being hosted by the Ontario Highlands Tourism Organization, which covers much of Eastern Ontario including Hastings County.
Executive Director Nicole Whiting says a key topic will be “Responsible Tourism.” That means building an industry that is sustainable and also preserves the culture of communities within the region.
Whiting says she believes tourism businesses in rural regions, such as the Highlands, have bounced back stronger than tourism regions within cities, after two years of slow business, due to COVID-19.
She says many local tourism businesses used the slow down time to improve their products.
