Tourism grant supports beautification of Maynooth

The charming community of Maynooth is getting even more lovely.

Hastings Highlands voted to move forward with a beautification project for the village north of Bancroft, which often draws tourists for its art shops and other stores.

The vote allowed council to accept a grant of $42,000 from a program supported by the Ontario Highlands Tourism Organization. About $60,000 had already been budgeted and spent on items such as new bike racks, seats and planters among other things.

The grant money allows the municipality to put $32,000 back into reserves to fund future economic development projects.

Some of the outdoor items were installed in Maynooth earlier this year. They’ve been packed up for winter, but will be brought out again in spring.

Councillor Nancy Matheson hailed it as “great news” as the vote passed.
