Hastings Trails wants to add paddling routes to network

A group that promotes trails in the region wants to wade into new territory.

Hastings Trails is encouraging discussion on how to add paddling routes to the areas it promotes. The organization has already held two “community engagement” events with partners and another is planned for later this month.

Cathy Trimble, a consultant with the group, says many of the trails it promotes are along rivers such as the York River and Madawaska.

She says some of the first people to live in our area, travelled through hiking and paddling routes along these rivers, so if these trails are promoted, it could increase tourism and give people a greater appreciation of the region’s history.

Trimble adds it will be a big project, as maps and promotional materials would need to be prepared.
