Santa Claus and tree-decorating contest coming to Bancroft

Christmas is coming – and festive lights will soon shine in the Heart of Riverside Park.

The Bancroft Lions Club is hosting a new Christmas-tree decoration contest. Participating groups can register to get a tree that they can decorate, around the “Santa House” behind the post office.

They’ll get access to the tree in late November and can decorate it with ornaments and lights, ahead of the Friday, Dec. 3 Santa Claus parade. A panel of judges will grant awards for the three best decorated trees.

Lions Past-President Scott McArthur explains his hopes for the program.

“We’re hoping this will be the first annual,” he says. “From what I’ve heard from the community and town office, people will get behind it. We hope to expand it over the years as our electricity supply is increased.”

To participate, find a registration form at Dairy Queen, SheNanigans, Hannah Lithographers, or the Bancroft Town Office.

Also, Santa Claus is making a list – and checking it twice – of times he can be at his house in Bancroft this Christmas season.

Santa will be there for the first time on Saturday December 3. After the afternoon parade wraps up, he’ll go to the house and be available for parents and kids to drop by and make their Christmas wishes.

McArthur explains future availability.

“Right now, it’s going to be Saturdays between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. We’re looking for some mid-week dates. Santa is a busy now, his schedule is crazy, getting things ready at the North Pole. He needs to check his calendar and see what he can do for mid-week visitation.”

Through the season, you can check the Bancroft Lions Club’s website to learn about Santa’s availability.
