UPDATE: Investigation underway as to why 911 went down

UPDATE: Friday, Dec. 2, 4 p.m.

An investigation into what caused a temporary disruption to 911 service in Bancroft is underway.

A Bell spokesperson confirmed to Moose FM that the emergency phone line became inaccessible to some landline customers, starting Thursday afternoon.

In an email,  Éliane Légaré said “issues impacting 911 are rare” and that Bell is “thoroughly investigating the root cause.”

The line is back up and working again.

Emergency workers have informed Moose FM that 911 calls from Bancroft-based phone numbers that start with “332” are not going through right now.

If you have an emergency, and can’t get through to 911, you can contact the emergency agency you need directly. For police, call 1-888-310-1122. If you need an ambulance, call 613-332-6601. You can also call the Bancroft Fire Department at 613-332-2442 for fire emergencies.

The agencies are aware of the situation and are prepared to take calls.

Bell is investigating and hopes to resolve the problem as soon as possible. We will update you when the situation has changed.
