UTV crash in Maynooth leads to drug dealing charges

Two North Hastings people are facing drug trafficking charges, after a dramatic scene unfolded in Maynooth Tuesday night.

Bancroft OPP were called to ANAF Road, just off the main street in the village, where a Utility Terrain Vehicle had crashed into a snowbank.

An investigation revealed the heavily damaged UTV had been stolen. One person was arrested at the scene of the crash. The other person was arrested following a search that involved the Emergency Response Team and Canine Unit.

The two charged are a 35 year old from Bancroft and a 40 year old from Hastings Highlands. They face charges of possessing meth, fentanyl and cocaine all for the purpose of trafficking. They’re also facing charges of possessing property obtained by crime.

This news comes days after the health unit in neighbouring Renfrew County announced fears that cocaine was being mixed with fentanyl in the region, triggering an increase in overdoses.

The two were released from custody and given a court date in Bancroft on Feb. 14.
